Doug Soldat

University of Wisconsin-Madison

Doug Soldat is a professor and turfgrass extension specialist in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Doug completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Soil Science from UW-Madison and earned a Ph.D. in Plant Science from Cornell University. His research and outreach programs are focused on improving turfgrass nutrient and water use efficiency. Doug advises the turfgrass management students and teaches courses on turfgrass management and general soil science at the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Ben McGraw

Associate Professor of Turfgrass Science, Penn State University

Dr. Ben McGraw is an associate professor of turfgrass science at Penn State University, and an authority on the ecology and management of turfgrass insect pests. He obtained a Master of Science degree in Entomology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a doctorate in Entomology from Rutgers University. Dr. McGraw’s research focuses on understanding insect ecology and behavior to develop sustainable turf pest management practices.

Dr. Eric Lyons

Associate Professor and interim Chair of the Department of Plant Agriculture and Director of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute at the University of Guelph

Dr. Eric Lyons specializes in nutrient management, stress physiology and plant competition in pasture, prairies and turfgrasses. Research interests include physiology of winter hardiness and methods for creating resilient landscapes for agronomy and functional horticulture. In addition, Dr. Lyons oversees extensive testing of new emerging products for turfgrass managers and focusses on outreach and education to further the turfgrass industry.

Elliott Dowling

Agronomist, USGA - Northeast Region

Elliott Dowling is an agronomist in the USGA’s northeast region. Elliott recently changed regions to New England and eastern Canada after spending 10 years in the mid-Atlantic. Elliott earned his bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in turfgrass management from Penn State University. Elliott was a superintendent in Chicago, IL for 6 years prior to joining the USGA.
