Dr. Brandon Joseph Horvath

Professor of Turfgrass Pathology, University of Tennessee

Brandon Horvath is a professor of turfgrass pathology in the Plant Sciences Department at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. He received his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in agronomy with a minor in plant pathology. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in turfgrass pathology from Michigan State University working in the lab of Dr. Joseph Vargas. He has worked at several championship golf courses and conducts research in turfgrass disease epidemiology that enables turfgrass managers to maintain healthier turfgrass stands with fewer chemical inputs. He is also engaged in research that blends the game's playing with managing its surfaces. He has given over 350 presentations, and published numerous articles about his work.

Faculty, Olds College

Jason is a former golf course superintendent, joining the Olds College faculty in 2009. He specializes in Turfgrass Science and Golf Resort Management, with degrees in Agriculture, Business, Applied Science, and Masters from Penn State. He represents
the Alberta Turfgrass Research Center as its Executive Director, providing continuing education throughout the turfgrass industry.

Alan Dolick works as a technical sales representative at Evergreen Bio Innovations, a forward-thinking company specializing in natural solutions for lawn care, golf, and agriculture. In the past ten years, Alan has honed a strong interest in soil health and microbial populations. He believes that by improving plant nutrition and championing healthy soil, we can lessen our reliance on traditional inputs in the future. Boasting over two decades of experience in the golf and lawn care industry, Alan brings a unique perspective and a practical approach to incorporating regenerative principles into turf management.

Superintendent, Abercrombie Golf Course

I have been at Abercrombie for the last 17 years and the past 9 years in my current role as Superintendent. 2024 marks my 26th year in the turf grass Industry.

A graduate of the Bachelor of Technology program at Dalhousie Agricultural College (2001) and The Pennsylvania State University Golf Course turf grass management program (2003). I have been privileged to work at The Country Club in Brookline and Old Sandwich Golf Club in Massachusetts before returning home to Abercrombie. Abercrombie Country Club is a semi private 18 hole club located in New Glasgow NS. The maintenance crew consists of a crew of 12 dedicated team members that do it all.
